1 (14) Organisms and environments. The student knows that reproduction is a characteristic of living organisms and that the instructions for traits are governed in the genetic material. The student is expected to: (A)define heredity as the passage of genetic instructions from one generation to the next generation; ( C )recognize that inherited traits of individuals are governed in the genetic material found in the genes within chromosomes.

3 Reproduction: is done by all living things to keep their species going

4 Heredity: the passage of genetic instructions from one generation to the next generation;

5 Asexual reproduction: when there is only one parent and offspring are identical to the parent

6 Sexual reproduction: there are two parents and the offspring have traits from both the mom and the dad (diverse offspring)

7 Traits: characteristics that are inherited from the genetic material passed from parent to offspring

8 Genes: give an organism specific traits and can be found within a chromosome on the DNA

9 Chromosomes: are found inside the nucleas and contain DNA

10 Recall: Gregor Mendel is the father of genetics Summary: Mendel studied pea plants to get a better understanding of how traits were passed down from one generation to the next OUT: Where can you find the genetic material in a eukaryotic cell? In a prokaryotic cell? **use complete sentences**
