Genre: A formal report. Purpose: To explain the issue as well as its relevance. In other words, why is it important? Audience: Your scholarly peers, and me. 4-6 pages. APA Style. Moving from evidence (your sources) to a conclusion (based on logos/reason)

Includes… Use of YOUR SOURCES from the annotated bib ▪ This deals with learning how to conduct research Background information (when did it start, etc.) The facts (who, what, when, where, why) The CURRENT state of the issue One to two VISUAL AIDS A thesis statement in the introduction In CONCLUSION: why is it important? ▪ This section is where you draw conclusions from your sources ▪ Think of the conclusion as an appeal to the audience’s values ▪ Why should your audience care about this issue?

How to Use Sources: Read and mark as you go Print the articles Make comments on important passages ▪ This is called “marginalia” ▪ Comments made in the “margins” of a book/article ▪ You could categorize/color code your comments Facts/important dates/local connection/global impact Get physical Underline relevant and important passages Highlight Circle
