An algebraic expression is a collection of letters (variables) and real numbers (constants) combined using the operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and exponentiation. 18 Finally…those effecting FACTORING If a, b, and c are integers such that ab=c, then a and b are factors of c. A Prime number is an integer that has exactly two positive factors, itself and 1. Examples are 2, 3, 5, 7 and 11. Composite numbers are those numbers that can be written as the product of two or more prime numbers. The number 1 is neither prime nor composite.

19 Basic Rules of Algebra This brings us to….. The Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic Every positive integer greater than 1 can be written as the product of prime numbers in precisely one way (disregarding order). This is called prime factorization.
