toFrom In the Sight of God “GREAT” is not a bad word  Jesus spoke of the greatness of John the Baptist "Assuredly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.” (Matt.11:11)  Jesus commended great faith “When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, "Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!” (Matt 8:10) “Then Jesus answered and said to her, "O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire." And her daughter was healed from that very hour.” (Matt 15:28)  Jesus instructed His disciples how to be great in the kingdom (Matt.5:19; 18:1-4; 20:20-28)

toFrom In the Sight of God Matthew 20:20-28 20 Then the mother of Zebedee's sons came to Him with her sons, kneeling down and asking something from Him. 21 And He said to her, "What do you wish?" She said to Him, "Grant that these two sons of mine may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on the left, in Your kingdom.” 22 But Jesus answered and said, "You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?" They said to Him, "We are able.“ 23 So He said to them, "You will indeed drink My cup, and

toFrom In the Sight of God be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with; but to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it is prepared by My Father.“ 24 And when the ten heard it, they were greatly displeased with the two brothers. 25 But Jesus called them to Himself and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them. 26 "Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. 27 "And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave--

toFrom In the Sight of God 28 "just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." “Jesus never rebuked them for their longing to be great. He gave them a completely new paradigm about what greatness is…” (Good to Great in the Eyes of God, Chip Ingram)

toFrom In the Sight of God Greatness in the Sight of God  Comes through humility (Matt.18:1- 4) At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, "Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2 Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, and said, "Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. "Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Then a dispute arose among them as to which of them would be greatest. And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a little child and set him by Him, and said to them, "Whoever receives this little child in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me receives Him who sent Me. For he who is least among you all will be great.“ (Luke 9:46-49)
