1 SnapShot Summary THIS ACTIVITY COUNTS AS A 100 POINT QUIZ GRADE! People take snapshots every day on their phones of people, places, and things…let’s make a snapshot of the texts we read!

2 Chunk 1 1.Read Chunk 1 aloud. 2.Read Chunk 1 again silently, underlining every noun in the chunk! (Use your grammar notebook if you need it!) 3.Read Chunk 1 again silently, underlining every verb twice. (Use your grammar notebook if you need it!) 4.With your shoulder partners, check each others lists! 5.Check the chunk for important ADJECTIVES or ADVERBS. Circle these and point the arrows toward the words they modify.

3 Look at your List, and Check it twice! Using the words you have chosen, carefully create a snapshot of Chunk 1! A SnapShot is a paragraph of at least three sentences telling exactly what that chunk is talking about! If Chunk 1 requires more than three sentences, write them. Make sure you tell about everything in the Chunk that is IMPORTANT! SUMMARY=A retelling, in less words, what a story or piece of text is all about.

4 My Model of Chunk 1 The United Nations said that 3,000 children soldiers, from the ages of 11-17, were released from having to fight for the government, this past Tuesday, January 27, 2015. The first 280 children to be released took off their fatigues and came to the village of Gumuruk in war-ravaged South Sudan. Officials said these children had been forced to do things that a child should never ever experience, and sadly, these children had never gotten to do normal children’s things like attending school. More children will be released in the coming weeks.
