October SACTA/FOCUCS MTCD EXPERIENCE IN AENA Memphis FAA/EUROCONTROL R&D Ignacio Núñez

October Background SACTA/FOCUCS Project Contents Project Methodology & organisation Results Conclusions

October BACKGROUND SPANISH AUTOMATED ATC SYSTEM SACTA DEFINITION&DEVELOPMENT : SACTA I: –IMPLEMENTATION AT MADRID AND PALMA ACCs. SACTA II: –INTEROPERABILITY BETWEEN ACCs. SACTA III: –EATCHIP III Requirements –OPEN ARCHITECTURE. –SPANISH ODS INTEGRATION

October BACKGROUND Implementation oriented More D than R Assigned on organisational structure Benefit from previous work.. Following EATCHIP/EATMP program AENAs RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT APPROACH

October BACKGROUND ON GOING SACTAIII PROJECTS OPEN ARCHITECTURE ATC Tools FOCUCS: 2K OCWP PLATON: Integrated SDP VICTOR : Integrated TWR Gate to Gate Real Time SIMULATION

October SACTA/FOCUCS Project SACTA/FOCUCS project, in the context of SACTA III Strategy Plan. FOCUCS GOAL –Development of functionalities to support new operational procedures and advanced HMI capabilities, for the Controller Working Positions

October SACTA/FOCUCS Project SACTAII EVOLUTION Supporting: New procedures New technologies and concepts Allows to configure conventional & FOCUCS CWPs Comparative evaluation Soft transition. Three releases (V1, V2, and V3), –spiral and incremental model. CRITERIA

October SACTA/FOCUCS Project Improve HMI Controller planing tools Ocwp harmonization Stripless Silence coordination OPERATIONAL OBJECTIVES

October SACTA/FOCUCS Project Obtain a OCWP integrated in SACTA Integrate EATMP ATC tools (MONA, MTCD...) Include ADS/AGDL functionality. Capacity evaluation through real-time simulation. TECHNICAL OBJECTIVES

October SACTA/FOCUCS Project SEI: Normal Mode Autonomous Mode RADU UPC MODES OF OPERATION GENERATOR OF INTERFACE ADAPTATION DATA MANAGEMENT OF UCS ADAPTATION CONTROLLER INTERFACE, WITH/WITHOUT PAPER STRIPS INTEGRATION AS SACTA UCS SUPERVISION AND CONTROL RECORDING AND REPLAY UCS WITHOUT SACTA CONEXIÓN NO PAPER STRIP RECORDING AND REPLAY SIMULATION MULTIPLE UCS`s OF AN ACC

October SACTA/FOCUCS Project - VERSION 1: STRIPLESS OPERATIONAL CONTROL TEST UCS INTEGRATED IN SACTA: RADAR, FP, MET/AIS PLANNING SUPPORT AT BASIC LEVEL (Dinamic Future SITUATION preview ) SILENT COORDINATION AND TRANSFERS - VERSION 2: REVISION OF PLANNING CONTROL FUNCTIONS ADVANCED LEVEL OF PLANING SUPPORT - MEDIUM TERM CONFLICT DETECTION (MTCD) CHANGES DERIVED FROM V1 OPERATIONAL EVALUATION - VERSION 3: EVALUATION OF DEGRADATION MODES AND INCIDENT ANALYSIS AUTONOMOUS OPERATION OF THE UCS (By-Pass: RDP + FDP) RECORD AND REPLAY CHANGES DERIVED AFTER V2 OPERATIONAL EVALUATION

October SACTA/FOCUCS Project

October

PROJECT METHODOLOGY& ORGANIZATION LIFE CYCLE ACCORDING MIL-STD 498 USERS INVOLVED IN WHOLE LIFE CYCLE TWO INTEGRATION MILESTONE THREE SYSTEM ACCEPTANCE TEST THREE OPERATIONAL EVALUATION PERIODS

October RESULTS Project began in coded requirements. HMI configuration and adaptation tool (SEI) allows to configure more than 1000 elements for display Focucs V1 evaluation concluded –4 weeks training of 20 controllers evaluation group –2 weeks real time simulations. –Analysis of results in V1 simulation produced 15% of changes for initial requirements.

October RESULTS Successfull integration in SACTA –Comparative analysis between convenitonal and Focucs performance –Transition strategy Dynamic future situation display DFSD Silent transfer ; Label dialogue between OCWP`s 24 hours on line record&replay Off line HMI use analysis ; PRAD GRAPH

October RESULTS DFSD Extrapolate Air Traffic Situation RDP & FDP data Window display of predicted situation –Horizontal ( Radar display window) –Vertical Allows forward & Backward (selectable t steps) FL Selection

October RESULTS Operational transitions FOCUCS V1 Madrid TMA June 98, 8 FOCUCS OCWP´s +3 SIM-DIN BarcelonaTMA July 99, 6 FOCUCS OCWP´s +4 SIM-DIN Las Palmas TMA July 99, 2 OCWP´s +2 SIM-DIN Valencia TMA OCTOBER 99 4 FOCUCS OCWP´s

October

RESULTS Operational Transitions NEXT: Palma de Mallorca TMA 6 FOCUCS OCWP´s +2 SIM-DIN En route Systems Installation, Second semester of year 2000

October RESULTS V 2 content : Advanced level of planing support Planning Conflict detection (PCD) Medium term conflict detection (MTCD) Changes derived from v1 operational evaluation

October RESULTS MTCD EATCHIP OPR ET1.ST04.DEL1.5 Vol 5 Flight conflict list Graphic Display Conflit symbol & conflict time; –Prediction –Violation

October RESULTS Evaluation of FOCUCS V2 2nd semester 2000 First implementation FOCUCS V2 –Valencia TMA 1st semester 2001

October CONCLUSIONS OPERATIONAL FINDINGS Stripless conditions: Silent authomatic coordination Information accesability DFSD very usefull towards MTCD MTCD no vertical and horizontal windows MTCD time configurable with SECTOR characteristics

October CONCLUSIONS FOCUCS V1 Evaluation key issues : Step by step concept ; –accepted –evaluated Reporting and training eg: pilot on 8.33 Package implementation Intuitive and coherent HMI eg : No editing need

October CONCLUSIONS Key issues for Operational Evaluation Sessions Clear & concise Objectives for each session Design scenarios tofulfill the objectives Define espected results Analyze real versus espected results
