a-ing You have two minutes to write a hypothesis about the difference between girls and boys You need to be able to test it by asking other pupils in your class. e.g. Hypothesis: “Boys will own more Xbox games than girls” Question: “How many Xbox games do you own?” Specify the problem and plan the investigation Collect data using a survey or experiment Analyse your data using statistics, graphs and charts Interpret your results and make conclusions

a-ing You have three minutes to design a data collection sheet where you can collect your tallies. Think about your categories -are they words or numbers? -if they are numbers, do they need groups? e.g. Number of gamesGirlsBoysTotal 0-4 5-9 10-14 15+ Total Specify the problem and plan the investigation Collect data using a survey or experiment Analyse your data using statistics, graphs and charts Interpret your results and make conclusions

a-ing You will have 4 minutes and 4 minutes only to collect data for your two-way table. Use a tally so that you can be speedy! Don’t forget to keep boys’ and girls’ responses separate… Specify the problem and plan the investigation Collect data using a survey or experiment Analyse your data using statistics, graphs and charts Interpret your results and make conclusions

a-ing Choose how best to present your data… Two bar charts? Two pictograms? A dual bar chart? Another diagram? Specify the problem and plan the investigation Collect data using a survey or experiment Analyse your data using statistics, graphs and charts Interpret your results and make conclusions Calculate some percentages using your data e.g.

a-ing The final stage in the data collection cycle: Write three sentences to describe what your data shows Write a concluding sentence to say whether your hypothesis was true or false Specify the problem and plan the investigation Collect data using a survey or experiment Analyse your data using statistics, graphs and charts Interpret your results and make conclusions State what you would do to improve the reliability of your investigation. What could you investigate next based on your findings? e.g. “The most common choice for girls was 0-4 games but for boys it was 10-14. No girls had more than 14 games, whereas 3 boys did. This data suggests my hypothesis is correct.”
