Vintage 1970 building - not supportive of new Information Technology environment No raised floors in most of NCEP and NESDIS research and operations areas Single pane windows (difficult to heat and cool) 1960's heating/cooling technology Current location not optimal for recruitment High crime area; surrounded by car dealerships Overcrowded conditions in WWB GSA supports NOAA's long term relocation plans for WWB

5. 5 Why Locate NCEP/NESDIS/ARL Near University of Maryland NWS Modernization: Collocated NWS forecast offices with research Labs/universities, where possible (24 forecast offices collocated with laboratories, university campuses) Received letter of support for locating near UMD from President of the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (1999) Enhances synergistic interactions with Meteorology Dept.
