2 Why open offices were designed?  Open offices provide time saving  Open offices lead to information being freely shared.  Open offices help to decrease construction time and cost.  Tacit learning is in the same way as on the job training.

3 Why open offices were designed?  Open offices are more effective. Because employees motivate each other.  Employees are always under control.

4 However; afterwards some disadvantages came out.

6 Our aim is to know does open office affect the instructors and students also in which way it affects

7 Hypotesis Open office affects productivity of instructors negatively. Open office causes some problems such as lack of privacy and hierarchy.

8 Methodology  We use survey and interview methods in our research.  We prepared questions about foreign languages office and we put our surveys on their tables.  Also we talked some of them face to face.

9 Result of our research, we listed their wishes, complains and pleasure. Pleasures:  Easy to share information  Personal computers  Terrace  Finding solutions easily

10 Complains  Lack of privacy  Lack of security  Feeling of crowding  Air conditioning  HVAC  Communication problems with students  Stressful working environment  Colors  Noise pollution  Radiation  Concentration problem  Ergonomic problems

11 Wishes  The place for office hours  Resting area  More storage  WC  Place for communication with students

12 Solutions  Providing privacy - Increasing level of panels  Providing security -ID cards should be used while entering  Feeling of crowding - Task lighting,wayfinding,legibility

13 Solutions  Air conditioning - Air conditioning units should be placed homogeneiously (not aligned on a line)  HVAC -HVAC system of office should be seperated from kitchen’s.  Communication problems with students - There should be a telephone out of the office. Also terrace can be used as common area for students and instructors.

14 Solutions  Stressful working environment - Colors should be arranged properly and noise should be prevented.  Colors - Cool colors should be used. However vibrant colors should be applied slightly.

15 Solutions  Noise pollution - Acoustical materials should be used such as carpet, acoustical panels. Also we can masking the noise.  Radiation - Anti-radiation tools can be used to decrease radiation.

16 Solutions  Concentration problems - We aim to solve this problem with lighting,colors ad security solutions.  Ergonomic problems - Chairs and tables should be rearranged according to computers properly.Also they should be ergonomic.
