Phoenix Convention Center Phoenix, Arizona Evolution of Energy Services Integrated Energy TrackIntegration of the Energy Industry Nicole Bulgarino Ameresco August 12, 2015

Energy Exchange : Federal Sustainability for the Next Decade Then Long pay-backs Add into ESPC with buy- down money and bundling Now Stand-alone projects through ESPC and PPA Providing lower cost energy than brown power Future Fully Integrated Microgrid with onsite energy generation 2 ESCO Evolution – Renewables DOE Savannah River Site | 20 MW Biomass Cogeneration Facility Fort Detrick 18.6 MW Solar PV Farm NASA Wallops Flight Facility 752 Tons of Geothermal Heat Pumps

Energy Exchange : Federal Sustainability for the Next Decade T-12T-8 Integrated LEDs with Advanced Controls 3 ESCO Evolution – Energy Efficiency Energy Efficiency – Simple replacements to fully integrated measures

Energy Exchange : Federal Sustainability for the Next Decade Initial projects included: – High Efficiency Lighting Retrofit and some sensor installation – Water Conservation – Compressed Air System Repairs – Equipment Replacement 4 Typical Initial ESPC Projects

Energy Exchange : Federal Sustainability for the Next Decade Hill AFB ESPC T- 5 Lighting with sensors Site wide compressed air system upgrade with tie into central plant Ventilation improvements Waste water minimization 2,250 kW Renewable Landfill Gas to Energy Plant 210 kW ground-mounted PV array Other Facility & Energy System Improvements 5 Evolve to Comprehensive Energy Projects

Energy Exchange : Federal Sustainability for the Next Decade Utilizing ESPC for deep retrofit of over one million square feet of office space at the New Carrollton Federal Building and the Silver Spring Metro Center 1 building (SSMC 1) in Silver Spring, Maryland. Project highlights include: – Complete retrofit of mechanical systems/building controls – Energy consumption reductions of 60 percent against baseline usage – 50% water cost reduction against baseline usage – Major chiller plant upgrade and replacement with geothermal fied – 1 megawatt equivalent of on-site renewable energy, a geothermal well-field will operate below a parking lot covered by a large-scale solar canopy. – More than 11,000 new LED lighting fixtures will be controlled by a network of 2,000 occupancy and ambient light sensors 6 Evolve to Deep Energy Retrofit

Energy Exchange : Federal Sustainability for the Next Decade Fort Detrick - 18.6 MW solar project 25-year electricity purchase agreement with Fort Detrick and a 25-year land lease with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers The facility is designed to be micro-grid compatible. All electricity from the solar facility will be consumed by Fort Detrick. Ameresco will build, own, operate and maintain the solar project. Ameresco is also building a 1.24 mile 4 kV distribution line to support the PV plant. The project is planned to be operational by February 2016. 7 ESCOs providing Supply-Side Only Projects
