1 ESLW 2006 European Semiconductor Laser Workshop Nice, France September 21-22, 2006 organized by CRHEA-CNRS Contact: Jean-Yves Duboz jyd@crhea.cnrs.frjyd@crhea.cnrs.fr Practical information: eslw06@crhea.cnrs.freslw06@crhea.cnrs.fr http://www.crhea.cnrs.fr/ESLW2006/http://www.crhea.cnrs.fr/ESLW2006/ (open April 1) The workshop is organized in conjunction with the European Conference on Optical Communication (ECOC 2006) which will be held in Cannes, 25-29 septembre 2006

2 PROGRAM General workshop information The workshop is intended to be an informal forum for the discussion of the latest developments in semiconductor lasers and amplifiers. ESLW has the tradition to give a chance to each participant to present his work, in the limit of papers being within the scope of the workshop and of the available time. Presentations are therefore limited to 10 min, followed by 5 min of discussions. 4 papers will be selected by the program committee based on the submitted abstract for a 30 min presentation. Program Program The preliminary schedule is to have the technical part of the program on Thursday and Friday,September 21-22, 9:00 – 18:00. The detailed program will be posted later on the conference web site. The detailed program will be posted later on the conference web site. Program committee: Gérard Monnom, LPMC, Nice Jean-Yves Duboz, CRHEA, Sophia Antipolis Jorge Tredicce, INLN, Sophia Antipolis Julien Nagle, Thales TRT, Palaiseau

3 TOPICS In line with previous years the following topics will be discussed: Novel laser materials, structures, and technologies (nanostructures, quantum wells-wires-dots, photonic crystals, microcavities, microdisks, quantum cascades, nitrides, GaInNAs, etc.) Laser physics (static and dynamic properties, noise, quantum effects, optical gain, strained materials, carrier dynamics, feedback phenomena, nonlinear effects, etc.) High power lasers (pump lasers, laser arrays, master-oscillator power amplifiers, unstable resonator lasers, etc.) Surface emitting lasers (vertical cavity surface emitting lasers, grating coupled surface emitting lasers, arrays, etc.) Long and short wavelength lasers (quantum cascade lasers, violet-blue-green lasers, frequency doubled lasers, etc.) High speed lasers (digital and analog modulation, pulse generation, mode-locking, Q-switching,etc.) Laser fabrication for commercial applications (yield, reproducibility, reliability, temperature sensitivity, feedback sensitivity, cost, etc.) Lasers for WDM applications (tunable lasers, wavelength selectable arrays, fiber grating lasers, etc.) Laser integrated devices (hybrid and/versus monolithic approaches, functionality, grating integrated lasers, cross-talk, etc.) Semiconductor amplifiers (high power amplifiers, broad-band amplifiers, multi- wavelength amplification, pattern effects, all-optical signal regeneration, time domain demultiplexing, wavelength conversion, etc.) Semiconductor amplifiers (high power amplifiers, broad-band amplifiers, multi- wavelength amplification, pattern effects, all-optical signal regeneration, time domain demultiplexing, wavelength conversion, etc.)

4 SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS A short abstract, limited to 200 words and no figures, should be submitted together with your registration (on-line registration form is available at the conference web site). Include title, authors, their affiliation, and the 200 word summary. Abstracts will be included in an Advance Program that will be distributed to all registered participants at the meeting. We hope to be able to make room for all contributions. If not, we will limit the number of contributions from each organization.
