3 “A Hundred Dollar Word”

4 Ephesians 5:19-20 19speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; 20always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father;

5 I Thessalonians 5:18 …in everything give thanks;
for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

6 I. Three things that get in the way of gratitude.
1. Pride 2. A critical spirit 3. Carelessness

7 II. Three things we learn about Thanksgiving from the Bible:

8 Our Thanksgiving should be expressed.
Psalms 100:4 Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name. Psalms 107:1 Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, for His lovingkindness is everlasting. 8

9 Faith and gratitude go together.
Luke 17:16-19 16and he fell on his face at His feet, giving thanks to Him. And he was a Samaritan. 17Then Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But the nine – where are they? 18“Was no one found who returned to give glory to God, except this foreigner?” 19And He said to him, “Stand up and go; your faith has made you well.” 9

10 An ungrateful heart will take you away from God.
Romans 1:21  For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 10

11 You say thank you to God when:
You make it your goal to please Him. II Corinthians 5:9 Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him.

12 You say thank you to God when:
You meet the needs of those others forget. Matthew 25:45 “Then He will answer them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’

13 You say thank you to God when:
You include Him in every activity of your day. Colossians 3:17 Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.

14 You say thank you to God when:
You praise Him with your lips! Hebrews 13:15 Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name.

15 Our Thanksgiving should be expanding.
The blessings of life Ephesians 5:20 always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father; 15

16 Our Thanksgiving should be expanding.
The burdens of life I Thessalonians 5:18 In everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 16

17 Our Thanksgiving should be expanding.
The burdens of life I Thessalonians 5:18 II Corinthians 12:10 Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong. 17

18 Our Thanksgiving is expected.
The mark of a growing Christian. The mark of a giving Christian. The mark of a glowing Christian. 18
