INTERNATIONAL ELECTROTECHNICAL COMMISSION Copyright © IEC, Geneva, Switzerland Shuji Hirakawa Secretary of IEC Technical Committee 100 17 November 2008 TC 100 coordination activities and strategy updates on IPTV standardization

11/17/2008100/AGS(Secr.)/3XX, AGM(Secr.)/YYY 2 Activities after the last AGS meeting  TC 100/AGS sent a report to SMB as SMB/3752/R  In this report, AGS asked SMB’s decision for Recommendation 0804/1  SMB decided IEC/SMB 132 Decision 9 at its June 2008 meeting  In order to implement this Decision, TC 100 decided to call the first TC 100 High-level meeting on November 20  In addition, TC 100 management team had coordination meetings with ISO/IEC JTC 1

11/17/2008100/AGS(Secr.)/3XX, AGM(Secr.)/YYY 3 A.1 TC100 strategy for IPTV standardization  Recommendation 0804/1 Report to AGS on IPTV standardization ---) 100/AGS(Secr.)305rev1 AGS recognizes significant overlapping on home-network and IDTV receiver standardizations on IPTV systems and/or equipment between IEC/TC 100 and some ITU-T Study Groups. AGS advises SMB to consider the establishment of a collaboration group between IEC TC 100 Chairman and Secretaries and relevant ITU-T Study Groups’ Chairmen. Because AGS foresees the similar situation between ‘ISO/IEC JTC 1 and its SCs’ and relevant ITU-T Study Groups on home gateway standardization, AGS also proposes that the SMB consider the establishment of a joint collaboration group between IEC TC 100, ‘ISO/IEC JTC 1 and its SCs’ and relevant ITU-T Study Groups on home networking, home gateway and IPTV standardizations.  Document 100/AGS(Secr.)305rev1 is attached to this document for information. Please see Page 13 and 14 of the PPT file for detailed proposed actions.  IDTV: Integrated Digital TV receiver

11/17/2008100/AGS(Secr.)/3XX, AGM(Secr.)/YYY 4 IEC/SMB 132 Decision 9  IEC/TC 100 AGS concerns the future overlap of IPTV systems/equipment standardization between IEC/TC100 and ITU-T, and recommends that SMB should organize a coordination group on IPTV.  This issue was discussed at IEC/SMB 132 meeting in early Jun2 this year and it made the following decision.  SMB Decision 132/9 - TC 100/AGS – SMB/3752/R, SMB/3752A/CC  The SMB agreed with the TC 100/AGS recommendation for a collaboration group between IEC TC 100 Chairman and Secretaries and relevant ITU-T Study Groups’ Chairmen on the subject of home-network and IDTV receiver standardizations on IPTV systems and/or equipment, and recommended representation from TC 100, JTC 1, ITU and ETSI in order to set up a better cooperation between these different bodies.  The SMB invited ITU-T to concur.

11/17/2008100/AGS(Secr.)/3XX, AGM(Secr.)/YYY 5 Invitation letter of TC 100 High Level Meeting on November 20, 2008 in Sao Paulo Invitations to: Chairman of ISO/IEC JTC 1 (scott_jameson@hp.com); Secretary of ISO/IEC JTC 1 (lrajchel@ansi.org);scott_jameson@hp.comlrajchel@ansi.org Convener of ITU-T IPTV-JCA (brian@bwmc.demon.co.uk); Convener of ITU-T JCA-HN (andrew.nunn@btinternet.com); Chairman of ITU-T WP 2/16 Chairman (okubo@aoni.waseda.jp); Rapporteur of ITU-T Question 13/16 (kawamori.masahito@lab.ntt.co.jp); Rapporteur of ITU-T Question 21/16 (goto@ansl.ntt.co.jp);brian@bwmc.demon.co.ukandrew.nunn@btinternet.comokubo@aoni.waseda.jpkawamori.masahito@lab.ntt.co.jpgoto@ansl.ntt.co.jp ETSI Vice-President for Standardization Projects (michael.sharpe@etsi.org), and Chairman of ETSI TISPAN WG 5 (luca.giacomello@telecomitalia.it):michael.sharpe@etsi.orgluca.giacomello@telecomitalia.it From: Mark Hyman IEC TC 100 Chairman (mhyman@smpte.org) and Shuji Hirakawa (Mr.) IEC TC 100 Secretary (shuji.hirakawa@toshiba.co.jp):mhyman@smpte.orgshuji.hirakawa@toshiba.co.jp We wish to extend this invitation to all participants as listed in Annex 2 attached to this document.
