Write Linear Equations in Slope- Intercept Form (Part 2) Big Idea: Verify that a point lies on a line. Derive linear equations.

Writing an Equation of a Line is Slope- Intercept Form given Two Points: Step 1: Identify the slope. If the slope is not given, this means using the slope formula to calculate the slope using two points on the line. Step 2: Find the y-intercept. This means you can substitute the slope and one point (x,y) in the equation y=mx +b. Then solve for b. Step 3: Write an equation using: y = mx + b

Examples (1) Write an equation of the line that passes through the point (6,3) and has a slope of 2. (2) Write an equation of the line that passes through the point (6, 3) and has a slope of -2.

Examples (3) Write an equation of the line with the following information: (-3, -1) ; m = 4 (4) Write an equation of the line with the following information: (8, -4) ; m = -3

Write an equation given two points (1) Write an equation of the line that passes through (3, 0) and (2, -4). Step 1: Calculate the slope Step2: Find the y-intercept. Use the slope and a point. Step 3: Write an equation of the line.

Examples: Write an equation given two points. (2) (3, 0) and (2, -4) (3) (1, -2) and (-5, 4) (4) (-2, 10) and (4, -2) (5) (2, 8) and (-2, - 4)

Examples: Write an equation of the given line. (-1, 8) (3, 4) Step 1: Calculate the slope. Step 2: Find the y-intercept. Use the slope and a point to find b. Step 1: Write the equation of the line.

Example 2: Write an equation of the given line. (4, 5) (2, 9)

Example 3: Write an equation of the given line. (8, -3) (-2, 2)
