Topic 1 - Feature Geometry (Topic 1) Same as ISO Topic 10 - Feature Collections (Topic 10) An OpenGIS Feature Collection is an abstract object consisting of Feature Instances, their Feature Schema, and Project Schema. Topic 11 - Metadata (Topic 11) ISO was adopted as a replacement for OGC Abstract Specification Topics 9 and 11. In June 2001, a motion to include material in addition to ISO was adopted as document Metadata AS. The approved addition to document is contained in document r1, which normatively references parts of the old AS Topic 9, document r1. FGDC in conjunction with ANSI INCITS L1 are planning the migration of the FGDC Content Standard for Geospatial Metadata to be a profile of ISO Topic 12 - The OpenGIS Service Architecture (Topic 12) Same as ISO Topic 13 - Catalog Services (Topic 13) Covers the Geospatial Information Access Services Topic 14 - Semantics and Information Communities (Topic 14) The OpenGIS notion of Information Communities was devised to enable groups such as ecologists and civil engineers to efficiently manage the semantics (or feature schema mismatches) of their own geodata collections and get maximum benefit from each others geodata collections, despite semantic differences. Topic 15 - Image Exploitation Services (Topic 15) Describes the categories and taxonomy of image exploitation services needed to support the use of images and certain related coverage types. Topic 16 - Image Coordinate Transformation Services (Topic 16) Covers image coordinate conversion services.

Topic 3 - Locational Geometry Structures (Topic 3) Provides essential and abstract models for GIS technology that is widely used. Topic 4 - Stored Functions and Interpolation (Topic 4) This Topic Volume provides essential and abstract models for technology that is used widely across the GIS landscape. Its first heavy use is expected to occur in support of Coverage specifications (see Topic 6, The Coverage Type). Topic 5 - Features (Topic 5) r A feature object (in software) corresponds to a real world or abstract entity. Topic 6 - The Coverage Type (Topic 6) Incomplete. This document normatively references parts of the previous version of AS Topic 6, document Need to be updated to include Roswell Change Proposal (01-011), which includes and retains material from Topic 6, v6. Topic 7 - Earth Imagery (Topic 7) This Topic Volume will provide essential and abstract models for technology that is already used widely (but not interoperably) across the GIS landscape. This technology properly depends on the more general technology that supports Coverages. Topic 8 - Relationships Between Features (Topic 8) r This Topic introduces an abstraction for the relationships between entities in the real world. IS Filter Encoding (Filter) A filter is a construct used to describe constraints on properties of a feature class for the purpose of identifying a subset of feature instances to be operated upon in some way. IS Geography Markup Language (GML3.0) r The Geography Markup Language (GML) is an XML encoding for the transport and storage of geographic information, including both the geometry and properties of geographic features. IS Grid Coverages (GC) This specification was designed to promote interoperability between software implementations by data vendors and software vendors providing grid analysis and processing capabilities. IS OpenGIS Location Services (OpenLS): Core Services [Parts 1-5] (OLS Core) r OpenGIS Location Services (OpenLS): Core Services, Parts 1-5, which consists of the composite set of basic services comprising the OpenLS Platform. This platform is also referred to as the GeoMobility Server (GMS), an open location services platform. IS OpenGIS Location Services (OpenLS): Navigation Service [Part 6] (OLS Nav) r OpenGISÒ Location Services (OpenLS): Part 6 - Navigation Service (formerly the Full Profile of the Route Determination Service), which is part of the GeoMobility Server (GMS), an open location services platform. The Navigation Service was formed by breaking out the Full Profile of the Route Determination Service from the basic set of Core Services, as developed during the testbed initiatives. Likewise, the Route Service was formed from the Basic Profile of the Route Determination Service, as developed during the testbed initiatives. IS Simple Features - CORBA (SFC) The Simple Feature Specification application programming interfaces (APIs) provide for publishing, storage, access, and simple operations on Simple Features (point, line, polygon, multi-point, etc).

IS Styled Layer Descriptor (SLD) The SLD is an encoding for how the Web Map Server (WMS 1.0 & 1.1) specification can be extended to allow user-defined symbolization of feature data. IS Web Coverage Service (WCS) r Extends the Web Map Server (WMS) interface to allow access to geospatial "coverages" that represent values or properties of geographic locations, rather than WMS generated maps (pictures). IS Web Feature Service (WFS) The purpose of the Web Feature Server Interface Specification (WFS) is to describe data manipulation operations on OpenGIS® Simple Features (feature instances) such that servers and clients can communicate at the feature level. IS Web Map Context Documents (WMC) r Create, store, and use "state" information from a WMS based client application IS Web Map Service (WMS1.2) Provides four protocols (GetCapabilities, GetMap, GetFeatureInfo and DescribeLayer) in support of the creation and display of registered and superimposed map-like views of information that come simultaneously from multiple sources that are both remote and heterogeneous.
