5 Welcome Letter This is a letter of introduction to my students. I try to personalize it be including where I received my degree, information about my family, my teaching experiences, and my hobbies. Students are then required to write a letter of introduction and post it on the discussion board. (They can even included a picture if they would like.)

6 Web-CT (My delivery system) I add my syllabus and course content using Web-CT as my platform to deliver my course. As my first online course was “Introduction to PowerPoint, I was able to use a PowerPoint presentation as a way to introduce new material. (Students could actually see what PowerPoint was and what it could do.) 8 Discussion Boards Here is where I would post a question that required critical thinking for my students to respond. 9 E-Mail Communications Each week I would send an individual e-mail to each one of my students to make sure they were connected with the class. If they were having problems with the class, I offered to tutor them or send them to the L.A.C.E Assistants (tutors) we have at SWIC. 10 Assessments With PowerPoint it was easy to create an assessment that was personalized so I felt assured my students were doing their own work. You can have active students in your online classes by connecting to their past experiences, discussing (discussion boards), critiquing each others projects, and writing about what they are learning.
