7 ELIGIBILITY BYLAW 14

8 ELIGIBILITY 5-Year Rule  Student-athletes have 5 years to complete their seasons of participation  5 year clock starts when student-athlete initially enrolls full time and attends first day of classes

9 ELIGIBILITY Seasons of Competition  Any competition, regardless of time, counts as a season of competition  Soccer and Volleyball  Student-athlete may compete in spring season w/out using season of competition as long as they were eligible during fall season

10 ELIGIBILITY Seasons of Competition  Preseason Exhibitions/Preseason Practice Scrimmage  If applicable in your sport, student-athlete may compete in preseason during initial year without counting as a season of competition (14.2.3.1.3)

11 ELIGIBILITY Hardship Waiver  The injury or illness must be incapacitating  Must occur during first half of playing season that concluded with NCAA championship  Must not compete in more than 30% of contests  A-Sun is responsible for review of hardship waivers

12 ELIGIBILITY Initial Eligibility  Qualifier  Graduate  16 Core Courses 4 Years of English 3 Years of Math 2 Years of Natural or Physical Science 1 Year of Additional English, Math, or Science 2 Years of Social Science 4 Years of Additional  Sliding Scale Index

13 ELIGIBILITY Initial Eligibility  Nonqualifier  Does not satisfy the requirements for a Qualifier  Not eligible for practice, competition or athletic aid during the first year of full time enrollment

14 ELIGIBILITY Initial Eligibility  Temporary Certification (14.3.5.1)  Recruited – practice for a 21 day period  Non-recruited – practice for a 45 day period  We may not provide athletic aid during this time period (tuition, housing, meals, books)

15 ELIGIBILITY NCAA Eligibility Center  Must register on-line  www.ncaaeligibilitycenter.org www.ncaaeligibilitycenter.org  Register at end of junior year of high school  Costs $65 to register ($90 for international PSA’s)  Submit an official transcript/6 semesters  Test scores must be sent directly to the NCAA EC from testing agency – code 9999

16 ELIGIBILITY Progress Towards Degree  Pass 24 credits fall/spring/summer (frosh only)  Pass 18 credits fall and spring  Pass 6 credits per term

17 ELIGIBILITY Percentage of Degree Requirements  40% prior to 5 th semester  60% prior to 7 th semester  80% prior to 9 th semester GPA Requirements  1.8 gpa at start of sophomore year  1.9 gpa at start of junior year  2.0 gpa at start of senior year and beyond

18 ELIGIBILITY 2-4 Transfers  Qualifier  One full time semester at two-year college  2.00 gpa  Average of 12 semester hours of transferable degree credit  Meet Percentage of Degree Requirements  Baseball and Basketball  Midyear enrollees are not eligible until following academic year

20 ELIGIBILITY 2-4 Transfers  Nonqualifier  If prospects haven’t been certified as a Qualifier, they are Nonqualifiers Temporary Certification (14.5.4.5.6)  Recruited – practice for a 21 day period  Nonrecruited – practice for a 45 day period  We may not provide athletic aid during this time period.

21 ELIGIBILITY 2-4 Transfers  Physical Education Activity Courses  Men’s Basketball Only  No more than 2 credit hours of physical activity courses unless enrolled in program that requires more.

22 ELIGIBILITY 4-4 Transfers  Exceptions to Residence Requirement  One-Time Transfer Exception Not Baseball, Basketball No previous transfer from 4-year school Meets progress toward degree requirements at previous institution Previous institution grants exception in writing

24 ELIGIBILITY 4-4 Transfers  May only receive an athletic scholarship if he/she would have been eligible to compete the next term at previous institution  Baseball, Basketball and Tennis midyear enrollees not eligible until following academic year

25 ELIGIBILITY 4-2-4 Transfers  AA Degree  Average of 12 transferable credits for each term of full time enrollment at 2-yr school  2.00 gpa  One calendar year has elapsed since departure from 4-yr school

26 ELIGIBILITY Outside Competition (14.7.1)  Any student-athlete that represents an outside team during the academic year becomes ineligible  May compete outside of the playing season during a vacation period  Exception – Soccer and Volleyball  May compete outside of the playing season beginning May 1  No more than 5 soccer and 2 volleyball student-athletes on same outside team  Approval from Athletic Director (we’ll create a form)  In Volleyball, limited to outdoor doubles tournaments

27 ELIGIBILITY Outside Competition (14.7.1)  Competition as Individual  Student-athletes may compete in outside competition during academic year as long as they represent themselves and don’t receive expenses from outside team

29 Q: If a student-athlete takes the ACT or the SAT more than once, what score can he/she use to meet the minimum test-score requirement?

31 Q: May a non-qualifier out of high school practice during his/her first year of college?

32 A: No. It is not permissible for a non- qualifier to practice, compete or receive an athletics scholarship during the first year of college.

33 Q: How many core courses may a prospect earn after high school graduation?

34 A: If a student-athlete graduates from high school in eight (8) semesters, one (1) core-course unit completed within one year after HS graduation may be used to meet the core course or gpa requirement.
