Top five co-authors for EECA countries scientists. * Fourth and fifth for Tajikistan are Slovenia and Iran Source: ISI WoK, 2008 The articles with Russian scientists participation had co-authors from 162 countries. The selected 15 countries constituting 75,4%. The most collaboration partners are Germany, USA and France.

Conclusions (1) Geographical location of countries obviously influences the collaboration patterns – the EU MS/AC collaborate most often with the EECA countries that are in their closest neighbourhood Historical and cultural ties also play a role in forming collaboration networks Collaboration reflects the potential of S&T sector in the countries as well as balance of national priorities physical and mathematical sciences, nanotechnology and environment Major thematic fields of well established EU – EECA cooperation are physical and mathematical sciences, nanotechnology and environment IncoNet EECA

Conclusions (2) FP: important topics of collaboration: –sustainable development, global change and ecosystems; –social sciences and humanities; –coordination of the international cooperation (multiple topics of the cooperation) –information and communication technologies Most of the international publications by the EECA countries scientists in the fields of traditional expertise: Physics, Chemistry, Material Sciences, Engineering, and Mathematics IncoNet EECA
