4 Causes Fault lines occur where the earth’s plates move, creating a lot of pressure and friction. This is similar to the pressure and friction when you rub your hands together The movement of the earth on these fault lines causes the earth to shake

5 Where they occur Red is where they are most likely to occur White is where they are least likely to occur (but it is still possible) Yellow, Blue and Green are in the middle

8 Safety What should you do during an earthquake? Stay Calm If you are inside, find a large, steady structure to hide under If you are outside, stay away from any structures. Look for open areas where things can’t fall Don’t take elevators What other things should you do and not do?
