3 3 Vision Cadastral users should be able to quickly acquire parcel data from multiple sources and easily use it to meet business needs. Two types of data are needed to support the Vision –Parcel Data –Common Reference Data (Public Land Survey System)

4 4 Goals of the Subcommittee Facilitate and coordinate the creation and implementation of the National Cadastre. Provide meaningful policy guidance for cadastral data that supports to decision makers. Enhance business solutions in order to provide incentives for collaboration and partnerships. Track and report progress in the use of cadastral data and standards.

5 5 Accomplishments Standards –Completed and maintained (data content and 3 data profiles themes) State Implementation Plans –5 States with Implementation Plans Elimination of Duplicate Effort –2 States completed standardized PLSS –7 States initiated standardized PLSS Successful Facilitation and Coordination

6 6 Accomplishments Relating cadastral data directly to business needs –Wildland fire, hurricanes, energy security, tribal lands and other consumers Involving the data producers –All levels of government (federal, tribal, state, county) produce cadastral data. –Inventory of parcel data in more than 700 counties. –Parcel data shared for wildland fire for more than 400 counties. Worked Directly with Customers

7 7 Accomplishments Inventory served as the baseline of the current situation. Guiding prioritization of resources Tracking progress geographically. Providing accountability through regular status reports. Tracking and Reporting

8 8 Support Needed From Steering Committee CAP grant funding category –Create cadastral category. –Fund through existing CAP Program. –Implement standardized data sets for parcel and/or cadastral reference. –Start in 2009 and run for 5 years include $600,000 per year for the grants. –Continue to encourage successful matching funds.

9 9 Support Needed From Steering Committee Designation of the Subcommittee as the national coordinator for a period of five years. –Support BLM with resources to do the work. –Allocate three full time positions in BLM Cadastral Survey Washington Office staff to manage and coordinate National parcel initiatives Federal parcel initiatives Common Cadastral Reference System

10 10 Support Needed From Steering Committee Report to FGDC and OMB quarterly to review successes and identify duplicative efforts –Work directly with OMB for guidance on solving duplication issues. –Continually track and make available county- by-county, state-by-state and reservation-by- reservation progress and accomplishments. –Continually track and monitor the progress of federal agencies in achieving National Cadastral goals.
