2  A hurricane is a huge, powerful, spiraling storm. It begins over a warm sea near the equator. It can cause great damage through its strong winds, heavy rains, and flooding. Each hurricane can last for over a week. The center part of the storm is known as the eye. It is the weakest part of the hurricane.

3  Your task is going to learn about a few hurricanes that took place in 2009 and understand what the different categories mean. You also will know what to do incase of a hurricane. At the end of the lesson you will need to help the bird get ready for a hurricane.
