Chapter XIII Massage Clinics and Sauna Bath Establishments

2 Definition of Terms Massage – method wherein the superficial soft parts of the body are rubbed or soaked or kneaded for remedial or aesthetic or hygienic purposes Massage Clinic – establishment where massage is administered to costumers Masseur – trained person duly licensed by the Secretary or his authorized representative to perform massage and supervise massage clinic attendants Massage Clinic Attendant – trained person duly licensed by the Secretary or his authorized representative to massage customers under the guidance or supervision of the masseur Sauna Bath Establishment – where customers are exposed to steam which is generated by sprinkling water on hot stones or by other means Sauna Bath Attendant – person who applies the proper technique for giving steam bath to customers

3 Sanitary Permit and Requirements
Sanitary permit must first be secured from the local health authority to operate a massage clinic or sauna bath establishment

4 Sanitary Permit Requirements: Massage Clinic
1. Properly lighted and ventilated reception and office rooms. 2. Adequately ventilated massage rooms with a sliding curtain at the entrance and the with a suitable and clean massage table . 3. Available sanitary and adequate hand washing, bath and toilet facilities. 4. Customers are provided with soap, clean towels, sanitized rubber or plastic slippers. They are required to take a thorough bath before massage. 5. Masseur and masseur attendant must wash their hands with soap and water before and after massaging a customer. 6. The establishment and its premises maintained clean and sanitary at all times.

5 Sanitary Permit Requirement: Sauna Bath Establishment
1. Properly lighted and ventilated reception and office rooms. 2. The sauna bath room properly lighted, provided with thermometers, and maintained clean and sanitary at all times. 3. Available sanitary and adequate hand washing, bath and toilet facilities. 4. Customers provided with soap, clean towels and sanitized rubber or plastic slippers.

6 Personnel Requirements: Masseur
1. Certificate as a registered masseur, issued by the Committee on Examiners for Masseur of the Department. 2. Possess an up-to-date health certificate issued by the local health authority to include VD clearance secured from any government clinic or hospital. 3. Wears clean working garment when attending to customers.

7 Personnel Requirement: Sauna Bath Attendant
1. Possess an up-to- date health certificate issued by the local health authority. 2. Wears a clean working garment when attending to customers.
