Salvador Dali Early life Born on May 11,1904 Salvador Dali was born but with the birth name of Salvador Felipe Jacinto Dali in Figueres, Spain 16 miles from the French border. Born in the Pyrenees Mountains were his mother introduced him to art. He frequently used we to refer to him and his dead brother. When his parents recognized his talent for painting they sent him to drawing school Colegio de Hermanos Maristas and the Instituto in Figueres, Spain, in 1916. At the age of 16 Salvador Dali’s Mom would die of breast cancer and his father would marry his dead's mother’s sister. Salvador Dali and his father would have different battles over different issues through there life's.

Art School and Surrealism In 1922 he enrolled at the Academia de San Fernando in Madrid he brought a new level of eccentricity growing long hair and sideburns. In this time he was influenced by different artistic styles Metaphysics and cubism. In school he explored many diffirent classical painters like Raphael, Bronzino and Diego Velázquez. During 1926 and 1929 he made many trips to Paris were he met intellectuals like Pablo Picasso and Joan Miro also René Magritte who introduced Salvador Dali to surrealism.

Expulsion from the Surrealists As war approached Europe especially Spain where he clashed between other members of the surrealist movement in a trial in 1934 he was expelled from the group because he refused to take a stance against the Spanish militant Francisco Franco. Art historians believe that his expulsion had been driven more by his feud with Surrealist leader André Breton. Despite his expulsion he still participated in international surrealist exhibitions into the 1940’s. during World War II Salvador Dali and his wife moved to the United States. During his stay in the U.S. he was exhibited in The Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Final Years Salvador Dali was forced to retire do to a disorder he had he couldn’t hold a paint brush. His wife died in 1882 which put him into deep depression went to his castle he had bought to stay away from the public latered died in Figueres.

Reflection I choose this artist because he is interesting and he is very recognized world wide as one of the best surrealist painters. With his famous clock painting. I didn’t know much about him before that is why I decided of doing a power point on him.
