5 © Rüdiger Ratz Committee of the Regions in Brussels How did Hofbieber get selected for the LTE Project Due to the sparse broadband coverage Hofbieber was located in a first-priority area regarding LTE-rollout (white area) Few broadband users; bandwidth rarely exceeded 384K Strong demand from local businesses for faster connections Preparatory work and preconditions in Hofbieber: Mobile-Guideline Broadband-concept fastest possible mobile based broadband access in all areas of Hofbieber Dedicated Resource Introduction

13 © Rüdiger Ratz Committee of the Regions in Brussels Conclusion LTE-bandwidth is close to fibre-based solutions and meets the demand in rural areas: o Makes broadband speeds in rural areas comparable to larger cities o It is an independent, value-enhancing investment o Enables not only broadband access but also internet-radio, internet-telephony and IPTV o Low migration complexity from legacy infrastructures LTE is a future-proof infrastructure
