 Holyoake 2011 V2.0 Holyoake Innovations Progress Report

 Holyoake 2011 V1.0 Holyoake 2011 innovations Project Embedding e-learning in business partnerships Holyoake and the Western Australian Substance Users Association developed a partnership to: embed e-learning in the structure of our business partner WASUA and the RTO at Holyoake identify the needs of learners and employers in the AOD sector for e-learning identify the most appropriate approach to on-line training in the AOD sector Develop Holyoake’s capacity to deliver e-learning to the AOD sector Develop on-line training for one unit of competency in the Certificate IV Alcohol Other Drugs to meet the identified needs

 Holyoake 2011 V2.0 What we did: We provided training time for staff to increase their capacity to develop and implement on-line learning provided time for staff to attend moodle, ARED and exe training at Westone we installed Moodle as our Learning Management System we developed our WIKI page we trialed various learning activities such as quizzes and case studies to support the content of the AOD course we provided support and encouragement for trainers and learners to engage in learning the skills required to develop on- line training

 Holyoake 2011 V2.0 What we did: (continued) All the project team were involved in planning for the project We consulted extensively with staff from our business partner organisation we conducted initial partnership meetings to establish industry needs and what Holyoake was able to offer we conducted focus groups which identified specific learning needs of individuals and industry and we provided an avenue to allow participants to trial the program we developed and downloaded sufficient content and resources to conduct the trial learning experience we used the feedback from participant to make changes and improve the format and content of the course

 Holyoake 2011 V2.0 Where are we at: We are currently engaging staff and learners to complete the on- line course, format and upload to our learning management system We have feedback from our learners and other trainers to incorporate into the content and formatting of the course for the unit of competency CHCAOD402A the skills gained from this experience will help us to complete the development of content and resources for the 4 units of competency in the AOD Skill Set on-line completion of the learner manual The last but very significant steps to be completed in this project are completing the content, activities, formatting, uploading, writing our reports and updating our WIKI page

 Holyoake 2011 V2.0 Issues Unrealistic time frame the original 2 units became 1 unit of competency Staff allocation of time for content development Underestimating time to develop content and formatting Familiarity with the software Security issues such as firewalls blocking access to WIKI Upskilling of staff Maintaining focus on the project (staff with very heavy work loads) Engaging learners - providing a variety of activities to accommodate different learning styles and abilities

 Holyoake 2011 V2.0 Lessons learnt: Team members are willing but everyone has time constraints and a busy work load Appreciation of the time taken to gain the skills, consolidate then apply those skills to e-learning A blended approach is essential for our learners Allowing sufficient time for project management and reporting Complexity of coordinating and engaging with learners and business partner Overcoming security issues using Moodle
