2 What is Social Media? Forms of electronic communication through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, videos, and other content. Way for people around the world to communicate with each other socially without being near one another. collaborative projects (for example, Wikipedia) blogs and microblogs (for example, Twitter) content communities (for example, Instagram) social networking sites (for example, Facebook) virtual game-worlds (e.g., DOOM) virtual social worlds (e.g. Second Life)

4 Users can create profiles with photos, lists of personal interests, contact information, and other personal information. Users can communicate with friends and other users through private or public messages and a chat feature. They can also create and join interest groups and "like pages", some of which are maintained by organizations as a means of advertising.

7 Twitter Nation Twitter is a social network where you post short bursts of thoughts and information It has become the single most talked about Web site since Facebook and grew 1,382% in the past year.. Twitter revolutionized social media by making it simple for the world to communicate in real time. Think of it as a cross between text messaging, instant messaging and blogging

9 What is instagram? An online photo-sharing, video-sharing and social networking service that enables its users to take pictures and videos, apply digital filters to them, and share them on a variety of social networking services, such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Flickr. By December 2010, Instagram had 1 million registered users. In June 2011 Instagram announced it had 5 million users and it passed 10 million in September of the same year. In April 2012, it was announced that over 30 million accounts were set up on Instagram There are basic Terms of Use that Instagram users must follow, including an age requirement of 13 years or older, restrictions against posting violent, nude, partially nude, or sexually suggestive photographs and responsibility for one's account and all activity conducted with it.

11 What is Edmodo? Edmodo is a social learning platform for teachers, students, and parents. It is commonly thought of as the Facebook of schools, as called by pupils and teachers alike. Facebook Edmodo offer an unique opportunity to “connect with students and help them create norms and reflect on how different online actions will be interpreted. Edmodo can be incorporated into classrooms through a variety of applications including Reading, Assignments, and Paper-studying.

12 How to use Edmodo? Current uses include posting assignments, creating polls for student responses, embedding video clips, create learning groups, post a quiz for students to take, and create a calendar of events and assignments. Students can also turn in assignments or upload assignments for their teachers to view and grade.
