13/10/2005Mid Sweden Office, Brussels 3 Short profile of Western Greece Region WGR is one of the 13 Regions of Greece 3 administrative districts: Prefectures of Aitoloakarnania, Achaia, Elia Area: 11.350 square kilometres (8,6% of the total area of Greece) Population : 741,282 inhabitants (2001) For the most part the terrain is mountainous (45,3%) or hilly (25,6%), while only 29,1% consists of plains Variety of landscapes, from alpine meadows to sandy beaches and a unique network of rivers and wetlands that support a wide range of wildlife (including golden eagles and vultures) WGR is a modern communications and transport hub that connects Greece to the rest of Europe (countrys main gateway to Western Europe)

Prediction of the spreading of the plume of contaminants with the appropriate software Toxicological and eco-toxicological risk assessment due to soil pollution and the contamination of agricultural products with the appropriate software Suggestion of technically and economically feasible strategies for pollution containment and/or site remediation
