3 Temperatures during the summer months easily reach 30 degrees centigrade when the hot sirocco winds blow across the sea from North Africa. Frequently it becomes searingly hot in the sheltered areas and, with twelve hours of mid-summer sun, extremely dry, although a pleasant sea breeze often takes the edge off the otherwise overwhelming heat. The winter months are generally mild, with temperatures rarely falling below 15 degrees centigrade and still maintain 5 or 6 hours of sunshine per day. It's not unheard of to pick up a nice tan during the winter months without to endure the usual heat. Occasionally colder winds blow south or southeast from central Europe, which can bring with it chillier spells, but these tend to be short lived. Although the strong winds can bring colder weather and it can become stormy, snow is unheard of. The short sea stretch from northern Africa means that little moisture is picked up. Even at it's heaviest between November and February, it is still comparatively low with an annual average of only 58cm. Although the average rainfall is low, it is still adequate for the country's needs, yet with rainfall being a rarity during the summer months, if you're planning on doing a lot of walking, you'll find the landscape fairly parched.
