8 E&T in FP5: RESULTS INFRASTRUCTURE SCHOOLS UNIVERSITIES The concept of LO has been further developed Contribution to standardization World class brokerage systems Virtual campus Contributions to collaborative learning & modelling Development of learning resources and tools Innovative pedagogical process using ICT

9 LIFE LONG LEARNING E&T in FP5: RESULTS Brokerage systems: clearing house for payments, new business models for service providers, inclusive distance learning services Platforms and Infrastructures for learning support Demonstrating the possibilities of mobile learning CONSENSUS BUILDING Proactive dissemination Support to R&D projects / Concertation PROMETEUS MoU INTERNATIONAL CO-OPERATION TRAINING & L. at WORK Advanced (VR based) training systems Cross sectorial collaboration: academy-industry Allow SMEs to entrust necessary research

10 E&T in FP5: CHALLENGES Innovation in context – new approaches to pedagogical methods but standard technologies Developing new paradigms – but tension between technological and pedagogical approaches Often fragmented solutions Input to ongoing research issues & targets Metadata and developing (re-)usability of Learning Objects Supporting personalization & adaptation Changing organizational models Sustaining the social context of learning

11 E&T in FP5: IMPACT Various solutions have been developed with a potential for use in the targeted markets some solutions have exploitation potential & plans a few products are already on the market some projects have not quite reached that point: and now? Is it too early for an in-depth impact assessment

12 E&T in FP5: ACHIEVEMENTS Have we made a difference anywhere ? Contributions to mainstream elearning European contribution to emerging international standards in the domain Involvements of schools from research to practice dissemination of examples of good practice publishers open-up to European dimension Exploring the value of ICT as Learning Support in special learning contexts, e.g. rehabilitation of offenders (relationship technology/pedagogy) Virtual campus & Interoperability frameworks Academy & industry / SMEs involvement

17 FP6 Projects on TeLearn KALEIDOSCOPE will support the creation of a comprehensive and strong European Research Area for TeLearn with a world wide perspective PROLEARN focuses on technology-enhanced learning resources and their use for professional training in SME's and larger companies, thus bridging the gap between university research and education and professional training and continuous education. ELEGI Harnessing GRIDs for learning: Development and evaluation of Grid services that support virtual communities of learners, both in formal and in informal contexts, by facilitating knowledge construction through individual experience and collaboration between learners iClass: a distributed collaborative learning environment, founded on an ontology-based architecture for sequencing of knowledge and adaptive to learner's level of understanding and learning style by dynamically creating individualized learning objects LeActiveMath Learning mathematics interactively: Development and evaluation of a mathematics tutoring system that adapts itself to individual learners' needs and features advanced personalization and intelligent feedback CONNECT development of a learning environment, the virtual science thematic park, using advanced ICT (augmented reality, wireless communications) to connect informal learning strategies and formal curricular activities in science education TELCERT Interoperable e-learning content. Development and evaluation of strategies and tools for testing standards compliance of e- learning content, taking into account user- community Application Profiles UNFOLD understanding new framework of learning design. It supports the adoption, implementation, use and further development of open standards for learning systems in Europe
