THE GATHERING Hosanna (Glad Song)

THE WELCOME

THE ENTRANCE HYMN Hosanna, Loud Hosanna

Hosanna, loud hosanna, the little children sang; Through pillared court and temple the lovely anthem rang.

To Jesus, who had blessed them, close folded to His breast, The children sang their praises, the simplet and the best.

From Olivet they followed mid an exultant crowd, The victor palm branch waving and chanting clear and loud.

The Lord of men and angels rode on in lowly state Nor scorned that little children should on his bidding wait.

"Hosanna in the highest!" that ancient song we sing, For Christ is our Redeemer, the Lord of heav'n our King.

Oh, may we ever praise him with heart and life and voice And in his blissful presence eternally rejoice.

Old Rugged Cross

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross The emblem of suffering and shame

And I love that old cross where the dearest and best For a world of lost sinners was slain

So I'll cherish the old rugged cross Till my trophies at last I lay down

I will cling to the old rugged cross And exchange it some day for a crown

O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world Has a wondrous attraction for me

For the dear Lamb of God left his glory above To bear it to dark Calvary

So I'll cherish the old rugged cross Till my trophies at last I lay down

I will cling to the old rugged cross And exchange it some day for a crown

THE BEGINNING Leader: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. People: Amen

THE CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION Leader: The crowds came from all around to see Jesus enter Jerusalem. They waved palm branches and proclaimed "Hosanna"...

...Yet we do not honor Him as we should. Our worship and prayers have fallen too short. Let us come before Him now and ask for forgiveness: O Gracious Father,

People: We have not let your love have its way with us, and so our love for others has failed...

...We have lived as if we mattered more than you. We do not give you the glory you deserve. For this and all sins, we ask for forgiveness...

...Renew us and lead us so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways. Amen.

Leader: Jesus came into Jerusalem to show that He had power over death. He also showed that He has power over your transgressions...

...Let His forgiveness cleanse you that you can stand before Him with the saints of all time and loudly proclaim, "Hosanna to the King of Kings".... People: Amen. Hosanna in the Highest.

THE KYRIE Leader: In peace let us pray to the Lord. People: Lord, have mercy.

Leader: For the peace from above and for our salvation let us pray to the Lord People: Lord, have mercy.

Leader: For the peace of the whole world, for the well-being of the Church of God and for the unity of all, let us pray to the Lord People: Lord, have mercy.

Leader: For this holy house and for all who offer here their worship and praise let us pray to the Lord. People: Lord, have mercy.

Leader: Help, save, comfort and defend us gracious Lord People: Amen.

THE PRAYER OF THE DAY Leader: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Leader: Let us pray: Almighty and everlasting God the Father, who sent your Son to take our nature upon him and to suffer death on the cross...

...that all mankind should follow the example of His great humility, mercifully grant that we may both follow the example of our Savior Jesus Christ...

...in His patience and also have our portion in his resurrection; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and Forever. People: Amen (You may be seated)

THE OLD TESTAMENT LESSON Zechariah 9:9-10

9 Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

10 I will take away the chariots from Ephraim and the war-horses from Jerusalem, and the battle bow will be broken. He will proclaim peace to the nations. His rule will extend from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth.

THE EPISTLE LESSON Philippians 2:5-11

5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:

6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,

7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.

8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross!

9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name,

10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

THE GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

Bread of Heaven, feed me make me whole living water, flood the desert in my soul

Bread of heaven, soothe my hunger pain ‘til I drink in the glory and feast with you face to face.

THE GOSPEL LESSON John 12:12-17

12 The next day the great crowd that had come for the Feast heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem.

13 They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, "Hosanna!" "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" "Blessed is the King of Israel!"

14 Jesus found a young donkey and sat upon it, as it is written,

15 "Do not be afraid, O Daughter of Zion; see, your king is coming, seated on a donkey's colt."

16 At first his disciples did not understand all this. Only after Jesus was glorified did they realize that these things had been written about him and that they had done these things to him.

17 Now the crowd that was with him when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to spread the word.

THE GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

Bread of Heaven, feed me make me whole living water, flood the desert in my soul

Bread of heaven, soothe my hunger pain ‘til I drink in the glory and feast with you face to face. (Please be seated)

Apostle's Creed

We believe in God the Father, Almighty Maker of the heavens and the earth And in Jesus Christ, His Son, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit

And given birth, we believe, we believe. We believe, we believe, we believe.

And He was born of the Virgin Mary, And He suffered under Pontius Pilate. He was crucified, dead and buried, And He descended to the depths of Hell.

And He rose again, we believe, we believe. We believe, we believe, we believe.

And we believe He sends His Spirit, To His church with grace and pow'r. And we believe He pours His Spirit, On His Church in this final hour.

He ascended to the highest heavens, And is seated at the right hand of God. He will come again to judge the living Yes, He will come again to judge the living.

And judge the dead, we believe, we believe. We believe, we believe, we believe.

And we believe in the Holy Spirit, And we believe in the Holy Christian Church And we believe in the communion of saints, And we believe in the forgiveness of sins,

And the resurrection, we believe, we believe We believe, we believe, we believe.

GATHERING THE CHILDREN I Want to Walk As A Child of the Light

I want to walk as a child of the light, I want to follow Jesus, God set the stars to give light to the world. The star of my life is Jesus.

In him there is no darkness at all. The night and the day are both alike, The Lamb is the light of the city of God. Shine in my heart, Lord Jesus.

THE CHILDREN'S MESSAGE

THE SERMON HYMN Wonderful Cross

When I survey the wondrous cross On which the Prince of Glory died. My richest gain I count but loss And pur contempt on all my pride.

See from His head, His hands, His feet Sorrow and love flow mingled down Did ever such love and sorrow meet Or thorns compose so rich a crown.

Oh the wonderful cross, oh the wonderful cross Bids me come and die and find that I may truly live Oh the wonderful cross, oh the wonderful cross All who gather here by grace draw near and bless Your name

Were the whole realm of nature mine That were an offering far too small Love so amazing, so divine Demands my soul, my life, my all.

Oh the wonderful cross, oh the wonderful cross Bids me come and die and find that I may truly live Oh the wonderful cross, oh the wonderful cross All who gather here by grace draw near and bless Your name.
