4 Project objectives To develop a unique and sophisticated IT solution for Internet-driven geophysical information service: multilingual user interface national data resources aggregated new/extended standards of data representation/exchange developed user needs analyzed and addressed system open for geographic/linguistic/thematic extensions seamless geographic data information service.

7 What is GEOMIND mission? GEOMIND system is developed to meet the needs of people and organizations who potentially use geophysical data. GEOMIND is a web based information service (portal) to search, display and order geophysical data from across Europe. GEOMIND Portal provides multilingual platform to utilize geophysical data without a limitation of national boundaries.

8 What is geophysical data good for? The ability to specify the rock assemblage beneath the surface. Together with boreholes and geological knowledge as a base for the 2D & 3-4D models creation. Broad applicability in the solution of specific problems, e.g., seismic data in the oil and gas exploration, magnetic data in ore prospecting, radiometric data in the radon risk assessment.

10 How does GEOMIND work? Several organizations provide their geophysical data through the GEOMIND portal. An individual interested in geophysical data is able to search (textually or graphically) GEOMIND system for types of data available from data providers. Once the users have found data they will be able to directly place their order with the data provider on the GEOMIND portal. 16 Metadata Editor A new Java application has been developed for GEOMIND purposes to collect, edit and manage geophysical metadata by each partner. As the application is based on XML schemas, it is very flexible and adoptable elsewhere.

17 MDE: metadata preparation and editing Create new metadata record according to preselected metadata type. Edit existing metadata record. MDEditor forms are generated differently for each metadata type, using schema. Validation of metadata record.

18 MDE: metadata import/export Import or export metadata records from/to MDEditor internal and GEOMIND formats. Make record or full data clones. Profile creation, by selecting custom XML schema and XSLT, provides the possibility of transforming metadata records between various XML schema's. Major options: Extensions: Export to printable format.

19 MDE: metadata management Filtered search for imported or created metadata records. Grouping of metadata records by object types and other criteria. Reusability of data blocks.

20 Automatic metadata harvesting through CS-W In accordance with CS-W OGC standard for metadata exchange

21 Tools for data gathering from various sources MUX – tool for easy data transfer to MDE/Portal from varying local data sources: - To access external databases by JDBC, - From Excel files prepared in GTAB format. GTAB is an easy to handle tabular format which contains a subset of the most important GEOMIND shema elements.

23 Portal: Alphanumerical and GIS based search Simple search by geophysical method, category, country and provider. Advanced search provides more searching possibilities. Active map lets users to select the search area (bounding box). Possibility to view search results in a list or on the map. Hierarchical structure of search results. Possibility to view detailed info of the metadata record with the interactive map.

24 Portal: Geophysical data acquirement Metadata XML is available for free download. Geophysical data can be acquired in three different ways: free download, by ordering and by contacting a data provider. Multiple distributors and distribution options are available for the same data.

25 Portal: Data orders administration Possibility to administrate orders, allowing metadata provider (MDP) to control the ordering procedure.

26 Portal: metadata management Monitor of upload process. Activate, deactivate or delete certain record. Upload metadata records from local national sources. Monitoring of harvesting processes. Enable/disable or delete certain harvesting job.

27 Portal: Multilingual content management Ability to translate terms on the fly for various countries simultaneously. View translation statistics. Term search using filters and exact term id.

28 Portal: Metadata providers management Role assignment. Monitoring and control of active users. Control of new membership requests (approval/rejection).

29 Portal: Overall GEOMIND Portal supervision Monitoring and control of active metadata providers in certain country. Control of new requests to become a metadata provider in certain country (approval/rejection) Administration of Multilingualism

30 Multilinguality The multilingual approach of the GEOMIND project and its outcomes has been emphasized. The multilingual support covers: the project website the GEOMIND Metadata profile the multilingual thesaurus for geophysics (1500) the multilingual system interface. The system is currently provided with 10 languages.

32 European cooperation at Spatial Data Infrastructure building Beyond the utility of GEOMIND, this project will assist with communication, organization and collaboration between different EU nations. The project will contribute to the development of European Spatial Data Infrastructure (INSPIRE) or to other GSDI in the geological domain.
