3 Main goal To mobilise more employers to offer placements to Leonardo da Vinci and Erasmus trainees

Erasmus and Leonardo Trainees – A European Success Story Some statistics: First 3 years, around 85,000 students benefited from an Erasmus traineeship abroad. 2009/10: out of 213,266 Erasmus students, 35,561 went on traineeships (increase of more than 17%) 2010/11: the estimated number of traineeships is around 40,000

5 1. Erasmus and Leonardo Trainees – A European Success Story Some statistics: Each year from , Leonardo da Vinci provided grants for some 65,000 people to travel to another country to train or work

6 1. Erasmus and Leonardo Trainees – A European Success Story Some statistics: Between 2007 – 2011: 125,000 Erasmus trainees – 100% increase in the first 4 years since its creation 320,000 Leonardo da Vinci trainees – continual increase of the interest since its creation in 1995

Strong policy support to increase the quality traineeships Youth Opportunities Initiative (December 2011): 30% increase in the Leonardo and Erasmus traineeships for vocational and higher education students At least 50,000 Erasmus and 80,000 Leonardo trainees in 2012 Quality traineeships – relevant measure included in the Job-rich Recovery Package

11 4. Practical information Duration of the traineeship Leonardo da Vinci: 2 to 39 weeks for Initial Vocational Training (IVT) 2 to 36 weeks for People in the Labour Market (PLM) Erasmus: 3 to 12 months
