What is a virus??????? A virus is an email of some sort sent to you that will usually shut down or corrupt your computer. It will then send the virus to every person who has ever sent you an email. What damage can a virus do????? A virus can corrupt your computer or delete work. If it’s made properly then it can make you have to re-install your computer so eveything is lost. What are the different types of viruses??? The Trojan horse-usually comes up saying your computer already has a virus when it actually is the virus and if you click on it then it installs it onto your computer. The worm-A worm is a program very similar to a virus; it has the ability to self- replicate, and can lead to negative effects on your system and most importantly they are detected and eliminated by antiviruses. File Infectors This type of virus infects programs or executable files (files with an.EXE or.COM extension). When one of these programs is run, directly or indirectly, the virus is activated, producing the damaging effects it is programmed to carry out. The majority of existing viruses belong to this category, and can be classified depending on the actions that they carry out.

How can you stop yourself from getting a virus on an computer??????? The only way to stop getting viruses on your computer is to install an anti-virus system which scans for viruses and gets rid of them. A firewall prevents unauthorised intrusions into your computer systems and allows authorised access only. Are there any draw backs to using anti- virus software???????? Some anti-viruses update daily which slows down your internet connection. Problems caused by false positives A "false positive" is when antivirus software identifies a non-harmful file as a virus. When this happens, it can cause serious problems. For example, if an antivirus program is made to immediately delete or prevent you from going in infected files, a false positive in a essential file can render the operating system or some applications unusable. You have to renew it every year or month so it costs a lot of money.

What is hacking?????? Hacking is when someone accesses information off of someone else's computer without their permission. How do you stop hacking?????? You can stop hacking by getting a firewall installed.

What Damage Can Hackers Do?  Vandalism—Destruction or digital defacement of a computer or its data for destruction’s sake. Sometimes this is ego-driven. They break in and leave their mark to show they’ve been there.  Theft—Gaining access to intellectual or proprietary technology or information, sometimes for resale.  Hijacking—Many of the financially motivated hackers are interested in using viruses and Trojan horses to hijack your computer so they can remotely control it for their own purposes.  Identity theft—Electronic theft of personal information that can be used to steal financial resources from an individual or corporation.  Terrorism—Some experts believe that terrorists will eventually launch an attack using hacking techniques.

Stuxnet is a Windows computer worm discovered in July 2010 that targets industrial software and equipment, it is the first discovered malware that spies on industrial systems. More than half of Iran is affected by this virus. It was thought to be made by the US or Israelites. The stuxnet virus targets specific software and computers and spies on what they do. It does not get detected by normal antivirus software.

A computer needs a back-up in case anything happens to it. If your computer crashes or gets a virus, it may lose everything so it’s important to keep everything on a back-up drive. Types of back-up drives CD DVD memory stick external hard-drive internet Things you store on back-ups music photos homework personal details documents

Gary McKinnon (born 10 February 1966) is a Scotland systems administrater and hacker who has been accused of what one US prosecutor claims is the "biggest military computer hack of all time,"although McKinnon himself states that he was merely looking for evidence of free energy suppression and a cover-up of UFO activity and other technologies potentially useful to the public. After a series of legal proceedings in England, McKinnon is currently awaiting extradition to the United states.
