8 The Framework of Awards: Based on CREDITS HNCFDBScBScHonsPgCPgDMScPhD 12024030036060120180 Students can STEP ON (entry point) and STEP OFF (exit point) according to their needs / experience Entry point is determined by Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) Modules studied are based on the needs of employers - directly aligned to strategy for people development / work force planning 8

9 9 APEL, Entry points and Exit Points Based on previous qualifications, AND experience acquired at work. APEL rules – up to 75%, but cannot APEL core modules Examples – no qualifications, but several years in IT role in HIS – may get APEL for level 1, i.e. APEL worth 90 credits Graduate in Computing, but not Health Informatics, may get APEL at level 1 and 2, up to180 credits. Exit point usually negotiated with employer – FD, BSc or BSc Hons. Post Graduate Qualifications can also include APEL.

Development is effective and focused on the ‘right areas’ Better quality of work in job with less reliance on supervisory guidance Greater confidence and flexibility in style thereby increasing individual credibility e.g. presentations, meetings, etc. Broader externally informed thinking demonstrated by bringing ‘new ideas/research’ into work All students have owned their development and removed dependency on line managers

21 21 Students have displayed increased conviction and strength of opinion Enables transparency of development conversations across functions, teams and roles Staff feel a real sense of ownership for their projects so they will sustain the changes they have initiated. Increased confidence of the staff as they realise their contributions are valid and useful. Improved knowledge in subject areas, better understanding of how different aspects of the business interact with each other
