3 Our Mission: Comprehensive office ensuring equal opportunity and equal access to employment, housing, public accommodations and credit within the Gainesville city limits and to City of Gainesville employees without regard to individuals’ gender, race, religion, national origin, marital status, sexual orientation, color, age, disability or gender identity.

4 Proactive Measures to Prevent Discrimination – Conduct internal harassment and discrimination training. – Conduct external harassment and discrimination training. – Conduct specifically requested (or suggested) departmental training. – Conduct annual housing discrimination training.

5 Enforcement and Resolution of Cases What happens when a citizen/employee requests our assistance? – Intake process involves listening and clarifying – Initial counseling to frame the issues – Fact-finding investigation – Reporting findings and follow-up HRB Charter Officers

6 Community Presence – Regularly attend monthly meetings of community organizations. – Regularly meet with community leaders. – Regularly attend and exhibit at community-wide events.

7 Affirmative Action & SBE Programs – Develop and monitor the Affirmative Action Plan which includes: reviewing goals, and providing assistance and feedback to hiring managers for maximum effort at diversifying workforce. – Implement programs and events for compliance with SBE/SBPP programs, especially for women and minority-owned business; create small business registries and provide assistance and feedback to purchasing managers and small/minority businesses.

8 Community Relations Regularly coordinate and sponsor programming that addresses needs and interests of various segments of the community.  Dismantling Racism (Award Winning!)  Film Series; Study Circles; Action Forums  ADA Expo  Fair Housing Month  Gainesville Enrichment Mentoring (GEM) Program  Youth Summit  Career Fair  Employment Law Seminar

9 Diversity Initiatives – Biennial Diversity Awareness Training – Communicate diversity facts via Hodgepodge – Communicate diversity facts and programming via website – Sponsor cultural diversity programs such as dialogue, dinners, etc.

10 Communications  Newsletter  Website  Facebook  EO public service announcements  EO Mailing list  Rapport with media sources

11 Research – Maintain competent data and monitor trends on discrimination in the city of Gainesville, the State of Florida and the United States. – Regularly inform the public of discrimination statistics and trends. – Regularly inform the public of the status of Gainesville’s youth, minorities, and underprivileged.
