3. Apa in text Citation examples The following examples will demonstrate proper use of in text Citation using the Apa format when using the exact words of an author. The short story “The Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Allan Poe is an example of a story written in the first person. He explains his intentions to his reader in the following way. Poe (1846) “The thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could, but when he ventured upon insult, I vowed revenge” (p. 1) In this short passage he is directly talking to the reader telling him what he’s is going to do to a character in the story. An incorrect way to cite the passage would be to exclude quotations and mention of the author. The example below would be the incorrect way to cite the above passage The short story “The Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Allan Poe is an example of a story written in the first person. In the above example I used many of Poe’s words without giving him any credit for the words he used in the story which is considered plagiarism.

To be on the safe side if you where to use this website it would be best that you obtain permission from the creator. This includes any images or text from this website. If a website has a copyright symbol then you have to get permission to use it.

5. Non commercial use It is important to note that many institutions will allow you to use their materials as long as it is being used for non commercial use. In other words they don’t want you using their images or text to sell products or services. Or some will let you use their image you just have to give them credit for it (attribution). (see the example below). The Flckr website tells you what kind of restrictions are on their pictures. 6. Summary Tips If you want to use an image or text to be on the safe side ask for permission. The Flckr website images lets you know how you can use their pictures. Make sure you give credit to the creator of a piece of work.
