3 Author’s bio Witman Born May 31, 1819 Died March 26, 1892 Whitman worked as a journalist, a teacher, a government clerk, and a volunteer nurse during the American Civil war. Whitman didn’t know if he was gay. 2 Poe Born January 19, 1809 Died October 7, 1849 He was born as Edgar Poe in Boston, Massachusetts Poe was taken in by John and Frances Allan, of Richmond, Virginia, but they never formally adopted him. 5

4 Theme Poe The themes of Poe’s poems are dark and sad. Sometimes his theme are confusing to read and under what the theme is. 4 Whitman Some of Whitman themes were joyful like the poem “I Hear America Singing“ Some of themes are about death and heartache. 4.5

5 After Death After Poe’s Death there has been football teams named after him, Museums and etc. Walt Whitman has been claimed as America's first "poet of democracy", a title meant to reflect his ability to write in a singularly American character.
