3 Location  Where is it?  2 different types of location: 1. Absolute 2. Relative

4 Absolute Location  Exact place on earth where a geographic feature is found  Uses Latitude & longitude… Wisconsin’s absolute location?

6 Absolute Location Equator  Imaginary line that divides the north & south hemispheres  O degrees latitude Prime Meridian  Imaginary line dividing the east & west hemispheres  O degrees longitude  AKA: “Greenwich Meridian”

8 Absolute Location Latitude  Locates places north or south of the equator  Equator is 0 degrees Longitude  Mark positions in the east and west hemispheres  Prime meridian is 0 degrees

10 Relative Location DDescribes how a place is related to its surrounding environment MMore general! CCompares to a known place or landmark UUse D & D (Distance and Direction) Example… HHortonville High School is 1 block north of Kwik Trip

11 Weather v. Climate  Weather is the condition of the bottom layer of atmosphere over a short period of time  Climate is the weather pattern experienced over a long period of time
