Solving Equations with Logs Day 2
2
Solving equations with only one logarithm in it: If it is not base 10 and you can’t use your calculator, then the only thing you can do is rewrite it and solve the new exponential equation! Now use your different methods for solving exponential equations: 1.Raise both sides to reciprocal power OR 2.Change both sides to the same base OR 3.Take the log of each side
4
Solving equations with more than one logarithm on the same side of the equation: STEPS: 1.Use log rules to consolidate the logarithms into one logarithm 2.Rewrite in exponential form 3.Solve the resulting exponential equation using one of your methods Now check solutions, because you can’t take the log of a negative or zero! Reject any that don’t work.

Solving equations with logarithms on both sides of the equation: STEPS: 1.Use log rules to consolidate the logarithms into one logarithm (both sides if applicable) 2.Once equation is down to one log on each side of equation, drop the logs 3.Solve the resulting equation
