OCUL, DINO and Data DINO Meeting April 9, 2006 University of Guelph Suzette Giles Data, Map and GIS Librarian Ryerson University Library
OCUL Provides an environment for collaboration Agreements via OCUL are cost effective Resources are distributed from a central source (Scholars Portal) IR Group oversees electronic resource negotiations, licencing, acquisition etc. BUT universities can make their own agreements with producers
DINO DINO can identify potential databases / resources Can request trials at the OCUL level Can exchange information about the products Can collect and consolidate comments Make a recommendation to the IR Group Maintain lines of communication with the IR reps at home institutions.
Data - iGoStats 6 month trial Difficult because Restrictions on databases available Restrictions on downloading 8 different products Some libraries already subscribed to some products Statistical tables but not print publications Limited response from librarians because of the above. Vendor a little slow in responding to questions
Discussion What do we do about iGoStats? What have we learned? What is next? Are there other products we want to consider?
