3 #2 Information Seeking Strategies: What can I use to find what I need? 2.1 Determine the range of possible resources Brainstorm 2.2Evaluate the possible sources to determine priorities You want resources that are available to you and easy for you to use. Books Internet Sites Databases

4 #3 Location & Access: Where can I find what I need? 3.1 Locate Sources Figure out where you will get these sources Books – Cart Online Databases – LC Webpage or public library Website (using your library card number) Internet Sites – http://delicious.com/golubmhttp://delicious.com/golubm 3.2Find information within sources **Books: Look at the index or table of contents **Online Databases: Various search options **Website – Read them carefully **Find your citation information within each source

5 #4 Use of Information: What information can I use? 4.1Engage the source You will need to READ your source. You are looking for the specific information you need. 4.2 Take the relevant information from the source It’s time to take some notes! You will record your information on notecards. You must have at least 15 notecards. Cite source on side 2 of notecards. Books - Author’s Last Name, First name. Title of Book. City of Publication: Publisher, Copyright Date. Pages Cited. Database - Name of database and Title of Page Website - Name of Site and Web Address

6 #5 Synthesis: Putting it together 5.1Organize information from multiple sources Organize cards by sub-topic A pile of cards for each topic Outline or rough draft 5.2Present the information - Product **Review the Guidelines** Three page research paper Cover sheet (with graphic) and bibliography Three to five minute presentation Visual aid - model, poster, activity, PowerPoint, film, etc.

7 #6 Evaluation: How will I know if I did my job well? 6.1 Judge your product Before turning in your assignment, compare it to the requirements. 6.2Judge your information problem-solving process Think about what you did to finish this assignment. You might have learned some new skills to use any time you need to locate information!
