Overview What is the AMP Ambassador Program? What are the roles and responsibilities of an AMP Ambassador?

What is the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area? The AMNHA is similar to a National Park. It was created by an act of Congress in 2006 but it is a lived-in landscape. Several impressive landmarks fall with in its 40,000 acres.

AMNHA Landmarks Vaughters’ Farm Arabia Mountain

AMNHA Landmarks South River Panola Mountain

AMNHA Landmarks Parks Lakes Rare and Federally Endangered Plants

AMNHA Landmarks Monastery of the Holy Spirit Historic Ruins

What is the Arabia Mountain Heritage Area Alliance? The Arabia Mountain Heritage Area Alliance is a group of volunteers and staff who work to promote and preserve the natural, scenic, cultural and historic resources within the AMNHA. We work very hard with our 3-person staff but we need the help of volunteers to fulfill our mission!

What is the Arabia Mountain PATH?

The best trail system in Georgia; designed to link 21 landmarks and vistas Built over 10 years by the PATH Foundation 33 miles long and completely paved Connects to 10 miles of nature trails 15 parking lots to choose from

What is the Arabia Mountain PATH? Open to bicycles, hikers, joggers, walkers Open dawn to dusk every day Leashed pets welcome 21 landmarks and vistas No motorized vehicles (except wheelchairs)

What’s in a Name? As the AMP was built, different sections were given different names. These names are reflected on the PATH foundation trail signs throughout the trail system. Mile markers were also added as the trail was built so the markers are not clear or easy to use.

What’s in a Name? To help rectify the confusion Rockdale County has already put in a new trail marker system. Knowing about this system can help EMS find you faster.

What’s in a Name? Now that the trail is completed it is all called the AMP and a rebranding program is in the works.

What is the AMP Ambassador Program? This new volunteer program is made up of people who use the AMP AMP Ambassadors use the AMP when and where they like and have two main responsibilities Act as a friendly face to other trail users Report any safety or maintenance issues along the AMP

AMP Ambassador Responsibilities Visit the AMP at least once per month Interact with other trail visitors in a tactful and friendly way Develop knowledge of AMP landmarks and rest areas Be aware of your surroundings and always call 911 if you see an emergency Report your volunteer hours and any trail issues Come to our annual Thank You volunteer event!

AMP Ambassador Gear AMP Ambassador Identification (displayed) AMP Maps (to hand out) AMP Map (to use for 911 calls) AMP Pocket Guide Water Cell Phone Trail Buddy

AMP Ambassadors Should Never… Put your own safety at risk: Always call 911 if you see an emergency Do not try to handle any dangerous situations yourself Do not attempt anything you are not trained to do This incudes any medical or mechanical assistance Never give medicine (even an aspirin) to trail users Never use any physical violence or threats towards anyone

AMP Ambassadors & Emergency Services When calling 911 for assistance inform them of Exactly where you are (use your map to locate the closest intersection/name of trailhead) Who you are and why you need assistance If the incident is still in progress, stay on the line with 911 and provide updates When calling 911 for injuries or people wanting an ambulance, they will ask the person’s condition i.e. are they conscious, breathing, age of victim etc. Provide the 911 center with as much information as possible. If you apply first aid, do no more than what you have been trained to do. Always err on the side of caution. It is better for an ambulance to be sent than to decide not to call one when it is needed.
