2. 2 The National Agency for Education and schools are in a process of change The Goverment`s reform programmes for the school system in Sweden have a period of reforming all national goals och govering documents The current state of CMS, guidance and counselling are changing and we are in a period of many new improvements Guidance and counselling in Sweden are in a process of change

3. 3 General guidelines and comments on career education and guidance in English. The Swedish National Agency for Education has published a new steering document for guidance in schools. The guidelines and comments point out the responsibilities of the municipalities and schools and especially focus on the responsibility of the headmaster. It is also pointed out the duties of the teachers and of the guidance officer. Finally it is pointed out what should be main content in study and occupational guidance, information and teaching in working life.

4. 4 A reference group has been established A reference group has been established with stakeholders from a number of national agencies with responsibility for different levels of the education system and from the Swedish Public Employment Service (PES). In this group relevant documents and outcomes from ELGPN activities is disseminated. For reference purposes the documents have been translated into Swedish in order to simplify the use of the tools and made available to relevant stakeholders. Vi also considering making use of the online tool in a more structured manner.

5. 5 Quality work in career guidance The Swedish Goverment has awarded The Swedish National Agency for Education a project to improve the quality work in the area of Career Guidance. The work was going on during 2007-2009. Fifty pilot projects are part of the project whose aim is to find ways och methods to develop guidance. We are going to have a network meeting this month with municipal politicians, school heads, career counsellors and teachers from the fifty municipalities with “good practise” experiences.

8. 8 Education, Work, Guidance in Sweden This publication is intended to provide information for guidance practitioners and other professionals involved in the world of education, work and training. It is meant as a first step for those interested in how these areas function in Sweden. The responsibility for different forms of education and for labour market and guidance issues is divided between several Swedish authorities. Therefore the information is not always easy to find for those who are not familiar with the Swedish system. This text presents information from the different areas as well as offering an overview and a guide to further information. The publication results from a collaboration between several national authorities.
