Static and Dynamic Characters Alice and Brianna

Static Characters Stay the same throughout story. The character doesn’t develop. Usually not as complex.

Dynamic Characters They change throughout story. The character develops. Usually more complex.

Examples Sir Thomas More would be considered a static character. Throughout A Man For All Seasons he never changes. Never changes his opinions or lifestyle. Not necessarily a bad thing.

More Examples Macbeth would be a dynamic character. When he murders the king his life changes. Becomes darker and crazier.

Static vs. Dynamic The character type only relies on the motives/personality. Being a protagonist/antagonist has no effect on static or dynamic. It’s simply who the character is.

Static or Dynamic? - Batman Dynamic (His change was his after parents death.)

Static or Dynamic? - Cinderella Static (She remains Very nice/pleasant.)

Static or Dynamic? – Charlie Brown Static (Has never changed, ever.)

Static or Dynamic? – Frodo Baggins Dynamic (Grows during his adventure.)
