4 During CPR you must: Perform chest compressions Ensure and maintain an open airway Ventilate

5 When to begin CPR: Check ABCs

6 Effective CPR: Patient supine on hard surface Compress smoothly Proper depth Allow recoil Gives heart chance to refill Watch for rise and fall of chest when ventilating

7 Limit interruptions to no more than 10 seconds Moving the patient Hypothermia Take extra time to check for pulse Theyre not dead until they are warm and dead

8 Stopping CPR: Only a physician can order CPR to be stopped Otherwise you can stop CPR if: Pulse is regained Pulse AND respirations are regained You turn your care over to someone of equal or higher level of training

9 You turn your care over to a physician You are exhausted and are no longer able to continue
