4 NSRP Mission Every third grader below proficiency in reading will be paired with a mentor who is currently employed by CMS. The reading partner will meet with the third grader once a week for a total of 30 one-on-one sessions to work on comprehension skills. With social, emotional, and academic support, these students will reach proficiency by the end of the year and be prepared to enter 4th grade as college and career ready.

8 Sign-In Procedures How to sign in
Procedures to follow after signing in (Report to 3rd grade class, take student to media center for session, return student to class when finished, complete comment card after each session.)

9 Contact Information How will you notify the employee if student is absent? How should the mentor notify the school if they are absent? (Example: more than 24 hours= contact teacher via , less than 24 hours= contact front office secretary and they will pass on the message) Share school calendar with important dates to remember such as field trips, assemblies, testing calendar, etc. Suggestion: Have department members sign in with their name and so that a secretary or school personnel can create an list incase of a cancellation or emergency in which a principal has to contact all mentors.

15 Criteria for Volunteers
Attend orientation lead by the school or representative. Register as a volunteer on the CMS home page for the school your will serve. Access NSRP Website before working with your student. Meet with student once a week (one hour + 30 minutes driving time). Use the Website for quality instructional lessons and guides. Use comment card as a form of communication between classroom teacher and volunteer. Confidentiality signature is required Please notify school if you are absent. Students are expecting your visit. Report Neglect or abuse to DSS or school personnel Review student Interest Inventory sheets to gain insight on a student. Be mindful of students with allergies. Understand Emergency and Crisis Plans for the schools you are volunteering
