20. Evaporating Dish Is used for heating stable solid compounds and elements as well as for evaporating nonvolatile solutions

27. Bunsen Burner Used to heat nonvolatile liquids

28. Crucible with lid Used to heat solids, especially metals, to very high temperatures.

29. Tongs Used to pick up hot items. There are specific tongs for specific items – i.e. beaker tongs, crucible tongs, etc.

30. Wire Gauze Used to support glassware over a burner. May be used with a ring stand or tripod.

31. Scoopula and Spatula Used to transfer solids. Never insert into reagent bottle and never use bare hands.

32. Striker Used to light a burner. Expensive – do not operate just to watch sparks fly!!!

33. Rubber Stoppers and Corks Used to seal glassware – flasks, test tubes, etc.

34. Mortar and Pestle Used to grind solids into a fine powder.

35. Watch Glass Used to hold a small amount of solid.

36. Tripod Used to hold items over the burner.
