vs STUDIO THE FIELD

Differences Studio: - All equipment in one place - No weather issues - Controlled environment - Somewhat limited Field: - Anything is possible - Need to plan and coordinate all equipment - Can’t control everything

Types of Field Production  ENG – Electronic News Gathering - “run & gun” type of production - must be able to react quickly - must be able to operate all equipment - need to make decisions quickly

Transmission ENG Van Uplink Truck

Types of Field Production  EFP – Electronic Field Production - All out-of-studio production, except news - Documentaries - Travel Shows - Interviews on location - All EFPs are planned - Site Surveys - Equipment list - Production Schedules

Site Surveys  Why do a site survey? - See location - Determine any problems in advance - Plan what the shoot will look like - Determine shots, lighting and audio

Site Surveys  Conduct surveys at the same time of day as the shoot ------WHY?  Make sketches or take pictures -----WHY?  Equipment checklist

Inside & Out Shooting outside - You must decide what you show and what you don’t in the shot - You must be aware of your surroundings as things may “creep” into your shot. - Can’t control lighting very much - Weather - Can’t control it, but you must plan for it!

Inside & Out Shooting inside - You might have to become an interior designer to make the shot look good - You need to light everything PLANNING, PLANNING, PLANNING!

Things to Remember  Respecting property - Be considerate! You are a guest  Safety - Not only for you and your crew, but bystanders  Strike - If you moved something, move it back - Make sure the area you shoot in is in the same condition you found it when you leave

BIG Remotes

Big Remotes  It’s a large scale EFP with a live transmission - Sporting events - Parades - Political conventions  They are not staged for video  Uses multiple cameras  Usually uses a live production truck

Remotes  EFP vs ENG  Site Surveys  Production Schedules  Equipment Lists  Shooting Indoors & Outdoors  Big Remotes
