MATH 3/2 SCM

MONDAY: BELL WORK 1) study vocabulary words 2) turn in vocabulary crossword 3) complete the vocabulary quiz 4) complete the variation retake * must be done at the end of class 5) Complete math workbook page 83 *do for homework if needed 6) If done with everything else, you may read of work on something else.

TUESDAY: BELL WORK *SHOW WORK Use notebook paper and create the bell work grid Make sure you put the correct letter DateWorkAnswer 3/3 3/4 3/5 3/6 * show work- do not just write down an answer

AGENDA 1- bell work 2- Agenda- *Vocabulary Quiz on Monday 3/2 Quiz over Area and Dimensions 3/6 Benchmark on Friday 3/13 3- Objective 4- lesson *Changing Dimensions HW p. 623 #1-9 **for #s 4 & 8- it will require multiple steps- use example 3 for help!! 5- exit ticket

OBJECTIVE 7.G.1 Solve problems involving scale drawings of geometric figures, including computing actual lengths and areas from a scale drawing and reproducing a scale drawing at a different scale.

CHANGING DIMENSIONS Recall that similar figures have proportional side lengths. The surface areas of similar three-dimensional figures are also proportional. To see this relationship, you can compare the areas of corresponding faces of similar rectangular prisms.

The surface Area of a box is 10.4 cm 2. What is the surface area of a similar box that is larger by a scale factor of 3?

Formula surface area = surface area x (scale factor) 2 of figure b of figure a (new figure) (old figure)

The surface Area of a box is 10.4 cm 2. What is the surface area of a similar box that is larger by a scale factor of 3? Formula surface area = surface area x (scale factor) 2 of figure b of figure a (new figure) (old figure) ______ = 10.4 x 3 2 New figure would be 93.6cm 2 **keep units the same

THE VOLUME OF AN ICE CHEST IS 2,160 IN. WAH IS THE VOLUME OF A SIMILAR ICE CHEST THAT IS LARGER BY A SCALE FACTOR OF 2.5?

Formula Volume = volume x (scale factor) 3 of figure b of figure a (new figure) (old figure)

THE VOLUME OF AN ICE CHEST IS 2,160 IN. WAH IS THE VOLUME OF A SIMILAR ICE CHEST THAT IS LARGER BY A SCALE FACTOR OF 2.5? Formula Volume = volume x (scale factor) 3 of figure b of figure a (new figure) (old figure) ______ = 2,160 x 2.5 3 New figure would be 33,750in 3 **keep units the same

REMINDERS When doing area (including surface area), keep in mind it is a 2 dimensional shape. Therefore, you use a square your scale factor. **give it an exponent of 2 When doing volume, keep in mind it is a 3 dimensional shape. Therefore, you use a cube your scale factor. **give it an exponent of 3

EXIT TICKET Discuss with your partner  What does it mean to change dimensions?

WEDNESDAY: BELL WORK *SHOW WORK Use notebook paper and create the bell work grid Make sure you put the correct letter DateWorkAnswer 3/3 3/4 3/5 3/6 * show work- do not just write down an answer

AGENDA 1- bell work 2- Agenda- Quiz over Area and Dimensions 3/6 Benchmark on Friday 3/13 3- Objective 4- lesson *Changing Dimensions- WB p. 93 5- exit ticket

OBJECTIVE 7.G.1 Solve problems involving scale drawings of geometric figures, including computing actual lengths and areas from a scale drawing and reproducing a scale drawing at a different scale.

HOMEWORK CHECK 1)10.4 x 3 2 = 93.6 cm 2 2)11,000 x 1/150 2 = 0.5 m 2 3)2160 x 2.5 3 =33,750cm 3 4)Volume of original: (14x 13 x 10= 1820) volume of new tank (1820 x 3 = 49140) 1820 x 1/231 ≈ 8 49140 x 1/231 ≈ 213 213 -208 ≈ About 205 gal 5)13.99 x 4 2 = 223.84 in 2 6)200 x 1/12 2 = 1.4 ft 2 7)523 x ¼ 3 =8.2 cm 3 8)Volume of original: (27 x 9 x 12= 2916) volume of new tank (2916 x 1/3 = 108) 2916 x 1/231 ≈ 13 108 x 1/231 ≈ 1 13 - 1 ≈ About 12 gallons 9)4 x 5 x 2 = 40 3 x 5 x 2 = 30 3 x 4 x 2 = 24 40 + 30+ 24 = 94 94 x 25 2 = 58,750ft 2 ( Surface area ) 3 x 4 x 5 = 60 60 x 25 3 = 937,500 ft 3 ( volume )

EXIT TICKET Discuss with your partner  Why do we use an exponent of 3 for volume?

THURSDAY: BELL WORK *SHOW WORK Use notebook paper and create the bell work grid Make sure you put the correct letter DateWorkAnswer 3/3 3/4 3/5 3/6 * show work- do not just write down an answer

AGENDA 1- bell work 2- Agenda- Quiz over Area and Dimensions 3/6 Benchmark on Friday 3/13 3- Objective 4- Check WB page 5- lesson *N2K and review for quiz 6- exit ticket

OBJECTIVE 7.G.1 Solve problems involving scale drawings of geometric figures, including computing actual lengths and areas from a scale drawing and reproducing a scale drawing at a different scale.

NEED 2 KNOW Critical Thinking: Solve for the width Circle answer and SHOW YOUR WORK!!! Constructed Response: Identify the scale factor that is used within the problem. **remember to label your units Inch = inch inch = foot **look at the critical thinking question for a hint on scale

EXIT TICKET Discuss with your partner  What skills did you need for the need 2 know?

FRIDAY: BELL WORK *SHOW WORK Use notebook paper and create the bell work grid Make sure you put the correct letter DateWorkAnswer 3/3 3/4 3/5 3/6 * show work- do not just write down an answer
