Stimulus Funding- Energy Efficiency Block Grants in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act EPA Community Grants MD EmPOWER Grants and Loans
EECBG funds may be used to: reduce fossil fuel emissions, decrease energy consumption, improve energy efficiency, spur economic growth and create/retain jobs $3.2 billion in Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants $1.9 billion direct formula grants to big cities and counties $770 million direct formula grants to state energy offices, of which at least 60% must be distributed to local governments $455 million in competitive grants from the federal Department of the Environment

AT LEAST 60% of this MUST be distributed to cities and counties in Maryland NOT receiving direct allocations.
EPA is announcing the availability of up to $10 million in first of its kind, 'Climate Showcase Communities' grants to local and tribal governments to establish and implement climate change initiatives that will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The agency expects to award approximately 30 cooperative agreements, each one ranging from $100,000 to $500,000. [EPA Press Release, 6/15/09] A 50 percent cost match or cost share is required for this program. The cost share and/or match can be in the form of cash or as in-kind contributions, such as use of volunteers and/or donated time, equipment, salary, expertise, etc. Proposals are due by July 22, 2009. $8 million available in Loans and Grants for communities to implement best practices for energy efficiency Jane Lawton Conservation Loans- Low interest revolving loan fund for energy efficiency projects. Has made 58 loans, which have resulted in more than $20 million in energy savings. New Clean Energy Grant program- Complements Lawton loans for situations where repayment is not feasible. APPLICATIONS FOR THESE PROGRAMS ARE CLOSED FOR 2009 BUT WILL LIKELY BE BACK IN 2010
